Cold weather on the way

The emphasis in recent weeks has been, necessarily, on kit to keep you dry but with some colder weather forecast over the weekend we thought we'd remind you of some fantastic thermal base layers we've been stocking from OdloOdlo's heritage goes back to 1946 when Norwegian sportsman, Odd Roar Lofterød started the company by producing  training tights for ice-skating athletes that protected from the cold, and from there the concept grew to encompass a wide range of next-to-skin and winter sports garments.
You will see Odlo products being used by many athletes at this year's Winter Olympics and we stock classic base layer pieces from the WARM and Cubic ranges. Here's a lovely pink example from the women's selection- men's alternatives also available (not in pink though). The softness of the brushed inner surface of this base layer is just gorgeous. The fabric incorporates functional <> fibres woven into it that contain silver ions which prevent the reproduction of the bacteria that cause smells. <> functions without chemicals, is very skin compatible and offers optimal climatic comfort.
Women's Long Sleeve Turtle Neck 1/2 Zip WARM top £55

  • Highly functional sports underwear with good thermal insulation
  • Soft, fleecy brushed inside
  • Good moisture management
  • Fast-drying
  • Soft flat seams

Surprise return of The Angry Corrie

It's not often that a brown envelope contains a pleasant surprise- but yesterday one arrived at the Peebles shop that did. Totally unexpected Issue 78 of The Angry Corrie, Scotland's self-styled "first and finest hillzine". We'd got used to the sporadic nature of the issues but with the previous one being published in Spring 2010 we had assumed that Murdo Munro had hung up his bobble hat and TAC had quietly retired. It's sometimes nice to be wrong- so The Angry Corrie is available again, with the familiar mix of hill news, access issues and list-ticking at only £1 a copy.

Big Things in Peebles for our Birthday Weekend

It's our Peebles store's birthday tomorrow (we'll be 22 years young) and, as is becoming traditional, we've got a long weekend of offers available to celebrate and to kick start your Christmas shopping. We'll be open late tonight while the town Christmas Lights are switched on and there are 20% OFF deals to be had throughout the store until Tuesday
If you need any more excuses to visit Peebles this weekend we can highly recommend the community art event Rapt in Winter being held in local galleries all over the town. You can view their beautiful map here and find out more about the artists and galleries involved via  the event website and Richard Rowe's blogs There'll be live music throughout the town too Last but not least the regular local Food Market is running all weekend with additional hot food from The Restaurant at Kailzie Gardens
