Gift Idea: Invest in a premium waterproof jacket with £50 off

Developed for use on Alpine ascents and Scottish Winter climbs, the new Montane Alpine Endurance eVent® jacket £300 can handle the most extreme mountain conditions. The foundation its performance rests on is the breathable, waterproof and durable nylon-faced eVent® fabric it's made from. Next is the attention to cut and design. The tailoring prevents arm lift raising the hem when you are reaching high and the articulated arms prevent seams constricting round the elbows and biceps. Then there are the components and details. This is where our inner gear freak comes out to play. We can wax lyrical about the fine 12-13 stitch count on all the seams; the way the core body vents are angled for under-arm comfort and to work in conjunction with a pack; the colour matched 13mm micro-taped seams to maximise breathable surface area. This jacket exudes quality and considered design that can only be fully appreciated in the flesh. So we'd recommend coming to see us and letting us show

Winterise your Rucksack

With the the clocks about to go back, The Mountaineering Council of Scotland have issued a timely reminder to climbers and walkers urging them to take simple steps now to keep themselves safe through the autumn and winter. Days are already getting shorter and will seem shorter still when the clocks go back an hour this weekend. “A head torch is a crucial bit of kit for these shorter days,” says mountain safety expert Heather Morning. “It can make the difference between getting home safely and spending the night out on the mountainside, lost or injured.” Heather, Mountain Safety Adviser for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS), said: “Shorter daylight hours, dropping temperatures and the first dusting of snow on the hills are obvious indicators for hill walkers to think about extra kit in their rucksacks. “A head torch – with a spare battery – is crucial just in case your chosen route takes a wee bit longer than expected.  “It’s also well worth consid

Bit of an experiment in Peebles

We're trying something a bit different in the Peebles store at the moment. We've always displayed our clothing grouped by function: all the legwear together; the waterproof jackets in another part of the shop; the midlayers on a different rail again. It's seemed like the obvious way to make use of our limited space and when you want to chat to us about the relative merits of our products it's good to have them all to hand. But we wondered if there might be a better way to present the character of the brands we stock. I'm in the middle of the buying season for the kit we'll be selling in Winter 2013-14 and I realised that I don't just think  about what to buy in relation to competing products offered by other brands but also in terms of how the things we've chosen complement each other within the brand. That can be a major design feature like a group of products all aimed at the same end use or a little thing like a matching coloured trim ac
