So- what's so special about merino and what makes it ideal for socks? In addition to the obvious comfort benefits you get from its softness and non-itchiness its ability to manage moisture and odour control are notable. While most synthetic fibres that wick transport liquid perspiration, merino wool is able to absorb moisture from the skin in the form of vapour. In a Smartwool sock vapour passes through the fibres and evaporates as it reaches the outer surfaces. Bacterial growth is limited because of the lack of liquid and this helps minimise odour.
The socks also feature WoW™ Technology (they do love an acronym) which stands for Wool-on-Wool and provides higher density cushioning in the impact zones
We are currently carrying the Hiking Sock in two levels of cushioning, light and medium. Both feature arch braces to provide additional support and help hold the sock in place. The toe seams are flat knit to help avoid rubbing
