Celebrating 20 years in Peebles with 20% discount

20 years ago today we first opened the doors in our second shop in Peebles. 20 years feels like a substantial period of time and it's hard to decide whether to acknowledge that it encompasses nearly half our lifetime's experiences to date or to marvel at how young we were when it all started off. So much has changed over the years we've been here. I fact, I was wracking my brains to think if there is anything in the shop that we sold on day one that we still sell, unchanged, now. The best I could come up with is tent pegs and the flat, square batteries that go in the old style Petzl Zoom headtorches.
20 years of these!
Petzl stopped making the Zoom a few years ago but there are lots of them still around (probably a few that might be 20 years old and still operational) so we still have a steady requirement for the batteries. For the rest, in 20 years products have got lighter, more breathable, more efficiently waterproof, more specifically designed for a particular end use rather than generic outdoor activities. It's been great fun bringing these innovations to our customers and we're looking forward to introducing many more over the coming years.
To celebrate 20 years in Peebles we've got 20% discount available in our Peebles store only, up to and including Saturday 8th December. We're also open late on Thursday 6th December for the Christmas Lights Switch-on in the town

25 years on...still going strong

In November 1992 we were working hard to get our shop in Peebles opened. We were living in a draughty old shepherd's cottage in the Moorfoot Hills at the time and one day, our landlady remarked that there was a famous mountaineer coming to give a fundraising talk in aid of the village hall. It seemed unlikely but yes, Chris Bonington was coming to Carrington. It proved to be a memorable evening that people still occasionally mention to us today. Standing room only with an eclectic audience of school children, Women's Institute stalwarts, elders of the kirk and a smattering of outdoor enthusiasts. It probably wasn't the kind of gathering Bonington was used to speaking to but his professionalism and communication skills ensured that his stories came alive for everyone in the room. At the end of the presentation we joined the scrum of autograph hunters and got his signature on a poster which we hung in our new shop on the day it opened. It stayed on the wall for quite a few...
